In a groundbreaking move, Jio Platforms Limited, in collaboration with Nokia, AMD, and Cisco, has announced the launch of an open AI-powered telecom platform, aimed at transforming network operations with AI-driven automation, security, and efficiency.
The announcement was made on Monday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, marking a major step toward integrating artificial intelligence into global telecommunications infrastructure, ANI reported.
The Open Telecom AI Platform will debut with Jio as its first customer, creating a reference architecture that can be replicated and deployed across the telecom sector worldwide. This initiative seeks to optimize network intelligence, leveraging AI for enhanced security, efficiency, and monetization opportunities for telecom operators.
The new AI platform will serve as a central intelligence layer, combining expertise across radio access networks (RAN), routing, AI data centers, cybersecurity, and telecom automation. By integrating Large Language Models (LLMs), Small Language Models (SLMs), and non-GenAI machine learning techniques, the platform will automate network management and improve service reliability.
“By harnessing agentic AI across all telco layers, we are building a multimodal, multidomain orchestrated workflow platform that redefines efficiency, intelligence, and security for the telecom industry,” said Mathew Oommen, Group CEO, Reliance Jio.
The initiative is backed by industry leaders, each bringing their core technological expertise to the platform.
Lisa Su, Chair and CEO, AMD, emphasized the role of high-performance computing in AI-driven telecom, “By leveraging our broad portfolio of high-performance CPUs, GPUs, and adaptive computing solutions, service providers will be able to create more secure, efficient, and scalable networks. Together, we can bring the transformational benefits of AI to both operators and users, enabling innovative services that will shape the future of communications and connectivity.”
Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark highlighted Nokia’s trusted technology leadership across multiple telecom domains, stating,”We are delighted to bring our expertise in RAN, Core, fixed broadband, and optical transport to help drive AI-powered advancements in telecom.”
This AI-first approach will enable telecom providers to enhance network automation, optimize operations, and deliver improved customer experiences. With open APIs and LLM-agnostic architecture, the platform is designed to accelerate AI-driven applications, offering innovative solutions for enterprise and consumer services.
As telecom networks become more complex, the Open Telecom AI Platform sets the stage for a new era of intelligent connectivity, promising to redefine the global telecom landscape through AI-powered automation, security, and efficiency.
