India’s social media usage has reached a new high in 2026, with the country now having more than 551 million Instagram users, according to an ANI report. The figure makes India the largest Instagram market globally.

The number of Instagram users in India was recorded at more than 551 million in July 2026. This growing user base has also increased interest in downloading Instagram videos and Reels for offline viewing.

More than 500 million social media users in India spend an average of 2 hours and 44 minutes a day on social media platforms. The increasing time spent on social platforms has contributed to the growing consumption of video content.

The report also highlighted that Instagram does not provide a direct download option for videos and Reels posted by other accounts. Users can save posts within Instagram, but this does not store the videos directly on their devices.

As a result, the report said browser-based Instagram video download tools have gained attention among users. These tools generally allow users to use the link of a public Instagram post to download the video for offline viewing.

The report further noted that India’s social media user base is expected to continue growing, with the country’s overall social media users projected to cross 700 million by 2030. The rising use of Instagram and increasing consumption of video content are therefore contributing to greater demand for offline access to social media videos.
