India Today marks 50 years with ‘Remaking of India’ issue

India Today has unveiled its 50th Anniversary Special issue, ‘The Remaking of India: 1975–2025’, marking five decades of journalism that has chronicled and shaped India’s national discourse.

Released in January 2026, the commemorative edition reflects on the country’s political, economic, social and cultural transformation over the past half century, while also setting a new benchmark in magazine publishing.

According to a press release issued by the India Today Group, the anniversary edition has been conceived as a once-in-a-generation collector’s issue and is the largest ever produced by the magazine. Published as a never-before double issue, it brings together more than 800 curated images and 256 pages of deep editorial content. The English edition spans over 600 pages, while the Hindi edition runs beyond 360 pages, including innovative advertising formats.

Through its expansive and reflective content, the special issue captures five decades of defining moments, tracing India’s journey through political shifts, economic reinvention, social change and cultural evolution. The scale of the edition mirrors the complexity of the story it seeks to tell, offering readers a comprehensive chronicle of how modern India has been shaped since 1975.

The anniversary issue also stands out for the exceptional participation it has received from the advertising community. India Today English features over 190 advertisers and more than 400 advertising pages, while India Today Hindi includes over 55 advertisers and upwards of 150 pages. This strong presence, the group said, underlines the magazine’s continued relevance as a trusted, credible and influential platform for brands.

Commenting on the milestone, Manoj Sharma, Chief Executive Officer, Publishing, India Today Group, said the 50th Anniversary issue reinforces the belief that advertising delivers its strongest impact when carried by trust, depth and intent. He noted that in a fragmented media landscape, magazines continue to offer brands credibility and sustained attention, with long-form journalism creating an environment where messages are absorbed and valued. According to him, the milestone reflects advertiser confidence in print as a premium medium associated with meaning, permanence and influence.

Founded in 1975, India Today has published 2,006 issues over the past fifty years, building a reputation for authoritative reporting, sharp analysis and powerful visual storytelling. The 50th Anniversary Special stands as a definitive chronicle of modern India, documenting history as it unfolded and offering readers a lens to understand both the present and the road ahead.

With ‘The Remaking of India: 1975–2025’, India Today reaffirms its role as a chronicler of consequence, creating an enduring record for readers, institutions and future generations, while underlining the magazine’s continued relevance in India’s media landscape.
