With over 800 million users, India has become the world’s most ‘connected’ country, according to Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
The minister stated at the India Internet Governance Forum 2022 (IIGF2022) on Sunday that 5G and the largest rural broadband connectivity network project, BharatNet, will have 1.2 billion Indian users, constituting the single largest presence of the global internet, IANS reported from New Delhi.
“We also expect more technological advancements and updated regulatory policies to remain relevant. The third leg of this ‘Global Standard Cyber Law Framework,’ which we hope will catalyze the Indian Internet and economy, will be the active participation of all stakeholders, Chandrasekhar said.
All stakeholders in the global Internet governance ecosystem, including government, industry, civil society, and academia, were represented at the IIGF2022.
“We are considering enacting legislation to protect our citizens’ privacy, data protection, security, and safety. We are also considering how to build a trillion-dollar digital economy over the next three years, “MeitY Secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma stated.
The event centered on discussing the roadmap to digitisation and reaffirming India’s place on the global stage by emphasizing its role and importance in international policy development on Internet governance.
The India Internet Governance Forum is a project affiliated with the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (UN-IGF).
