The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to introduce a new award category, and the announcement was made by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur.
The newly added award, titled ‘Best Web Series Award’, will honour exceptional web series on OTT platforms, originally produced and available in Indian languages.
The award aims to recognize outstanding artistic merit, storytelling excellence, technical expertise, and overall impact of the selected web series, a PTI report stated.
In a tweet on Tuesday evening, Thakur expressed his delight in introducing this award and encouraged content creators to showcase the rising and aspirational New India through their storytelling.
He emphasized that India is rich in exceptional talent and has a billion dreams and untold stories waiting to be shared with the world.
Furthermore, the award is intended to incentivize and promote investment opportunities in India’s OTT sector, support content creation in Indian languages, and acknowledge and foster the growth and innovation of the OTT industry.
The ‘Best Web Series Award’ will be officially incorporated into the 54th edition of the festival, scheduled to take place in Goa from November 20 to 28.
