The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to break new ground this year with the launch of the country’s first-ever Artificial Intelligence (AI) Film Festival and Hackathon in Goa. The event will be held from November 20 to 28 and promises to blend creativity and technology in an unprecedented way.
According to an ANI report, the unique initiative will be organised in collaboration with LTIMindtree and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The AI Film Festival aims to explore how artificial intelligence can transform the world of filmmaking and storytelling, bringing together filmmakers, creators, technologists, and innovators to experiment with AI-driven tools and creative possibilities.
Festival Director and renowned filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who will also chair the jury for the AI Film Festival, described the event as an exciting new chapter in the evolution of cinema. “Cinema has always reflected the power of human imagination. Today, AI gives us a new lens that expands our ability to dream, design, and express. The IFFI AI Film Festival will be a playground for that evolution,” Kapur said in an official statement.
Echoing the sentiment, Sujay Sen, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Interactive Services at LTIMindtree, said the collaboration aims to celebrate creativity in the age of technology. “At LTIMindtree, we believe the future of storytelling lies at the confluence of human creativity and AI. Through this collaboration, we are proud to create a platform that nurtures innovation and brings the magic of AI to India’s creative economy,” he added.
The AI Film Festival will feature a diverse showcase of AI-generated films spanning genres such as fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental cinema. A 48-hour hackathon will also be organised for developers, storytellers, and digital creators to build innovative AI-based film tools and applications that could redefine cinematic experiences.
In addition to screenings, IFFI will host a series of workshops and masterclasses focusing on the integration of AI in film production, post-production, and content creation. Sessions will also explore the ethical considerations of using AI in storytelling—addressing topics like authorship, originality, and creative integrity in the digital era.
To further strengthen the exchange of ideas, the organisers plan to collaborate with international AI film festivals, creating opportunities for global partnerships and recognition for emerging creators.
By introducing this first-of-its-kind AI Film Festival, IFFI 2025 aims to position India at the forefront of the global dialogue on technology-driven storytelling—celebrating the synergy of art, innovation, and imagination in the modern cinematic landscape.
