Two decades after ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ became a defining pop-culture moment, 20th Century Studios has released the first full trailer for ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, confirming the return of its central characters and hinting at a high-fashion showdown set against a dramatically changed media world.
The sequel is scheduled to hit theatres on May 1, 2026.
According to a UNI report, Meryl Streep reprises her iconic role as Miranda Priestly, the formidable editor-in-chief of ‘Runway’ magazine, who is now grappling with the decline of print journalism and the challenge of keeping her publication relevant and financially viable in a rapidly transforming industry. The trailer suggests a sharper, more complex battle as traditional fashion media confronts new realities.
Emily Blunt returns as Emily Charlton, Miranda’s once-harried assistant, who has climbed the corporate ladder to become a powerful executive at a luxury conglomerate. Anne Hathaway is also back as Andrea Sachs, whose entry-level job at ‘Runway’ anchored the original 2006 film. While the trailer offers only glimpses of where Sachs stands professionally today, her presence reconnects the sequel to the emotional core of the first film, revisiting the tension between ambition, career choices and personal life.
The original ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ was both a critical and commercial success, earning USD 326 million worldwide, according to Variety, and cementing its status as a fashion-film classic. The sequel builds on that legacy, bringing back several familiar faces including Stanley Tucci, Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman. Adrian Grenier, however, will not be returning.
The expanded cast also features a mix of established and new names. Kenneth Branagh and Patrick Brammall join the film as love interests, while Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, Justin Theroux, Lady Gaga and Pauline Chalamet add fresh energy to the ensemble.
Behind the camera, the sequel reunites much of the original creative team, with David Frankel returning as director, Aline Brosh McKenna as writer and Wendy Finerman as producer. With its blend of nostalgia and contemporary themes, ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ promises to explore how power, fashion and ambition evolve in an industry under pressure, while bringing one of cinema’s most memorable characters back into the spotlight.
