SS Rajamouli’s masterpiece ‘RRR’, which is still playing in theatres, is scheduled to release on Zee5 and Netflix simultaneously in different languages later this month but, according to media reports, the movie may have leaked online already.
Even as the two streamers strategise on the blockbuster’s release on their platforms, according to indiaherald.com, ‘RRR’ has got leaked on some pirate websites, which may dent its OTT prospects.
Media reports state that Zee5 is exploring making ‘RRR’ pay-per-view for its subscribers. However, Indianbroadcastingworld.com could not independently confirm this.
While Zee5 is expected to release ‘RRR’ in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam languages, Netflix will release the Hindi version the same day.
Zee5 has in the past tried out the pay-per-view mode with Hindi movies like Salman Khan-starrer ‘Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai’ and the 2021 Spiderman release that’s currently available on Zeeplex for a certain additional amount for its subscribers, as also the “Friends Reunion’ show, Netflix doesn’t have such rules or content monetisation methods.
However, what is more worrisome for the makers of ‘RRR’ and the OTT platforms is the leaking of the movie online. It remains to be seen whether the streamers and the film’s producers take legal action against pirates.
