Kingshuk Mitra has been appointed as the head of ad sales for Star Sports, by Disney Star, as per sources familiar with the matter. He assumed his new position on Monday and will be reporting to Ajit Varghese, the Head of Network Advertising Sales at Disney Star.
Kingshuk Mitra takes over from Ambarish Bandyopadhyay, who resigned from the company in March, during the Indian Premier League (IPL). After leaving Disney Star, Bandyopadhyay joined ESME Consumer as Head of Sales and Distribution, Economic times reported.
Before joining Star Sports, Mitra served as the COO APAC of Essence, a company owned by GroupM. Essence later merged with Mediacom and became Essence Media. In 2018, Mitra was appointed as COO-APAC.
Mitra has an extensive background in leading digital company transformations, spanning over two decades. He has worked in various markets, including India, the Philippines, Singapore, Australia, and Indonesia. Notably, he served as the former Managing Director of Maxus Philippines and has had professional experiences at Madison, Emami, and Mindshare.
The Star Sports network boasts 17 SD and HD channels and features a diverse range of leading domestic and international sports events. Among the prominent sports showcased on the network are the International Cricket Council (ICC), Indian Premier League (IPL), Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Pro Kabaddi, and Indian Super League (ISL), among others.
