Beginning October 8, Hulu will officially become the global General Entertainment brand on Disney+, taking over from Star in international markets. The announcement was made by Disney in a media statement dated October 2, outlining a major shift in its streaming strategy as the company prepares for a fully integrated unified app experience next year.
Disney+ subscribers around the world will soon notice significant changes across the platform, including updated design features, a modernized homepage, and smoother navigation options. These updates are part of an ongoing rollout that will further integrate Hulu into the Disney+ ecosystem, providing users with a more dynamic and intuitive entertainment experience.
Among the key updates is a new navigation bar on the homepage, where the “For You” tab will become the default viewing space, curated by an upgraded recommendation engine that learns from user preferences. Dedicated sections for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN will also allow viewers to explore each catalog individually. Meanwhile, a Live hub will streamline access to 24/7 streams, sports, and news, while fresh labels such as “New Movie,” “New Series,” and “Season Finale” will spotlight the most relevant content.
Disney also emphasized improvements to personalization, highlighting that user profiles will now play a larger role in tailoring recommendations. The homepage will take on a more cinematic look, with poster-style artwork, a video-led hero carousel, and dynamic brand showcases.
While most of the design enhancements are aimed at living room screens, Disney confirmed that iOS users will soon gain access to new widgets for one-click entry into programming. The company added that mobile-first and mobile-exclusive features are also in development, underscoring its focus on reaching wider audiences.
“These enhancements are just the beginning,” Disney stated, noting that more updates are planned in the lead-up to the launch of a unified app that will combine Hulu and Disney+ into a single platform by next year.
