Disney is currently reviewing its film release schedule for the rest of the year and is contemplating potential delays for certain movies due to ongoing strikes by actors. These strikes have hindered the actors’ ability to promote the films effectively. While the discussions are still in their early stages, titles like ‘Poor Things’, ‘Next Goal Wins’, ‘Wish’, and ‘Magazine Dreams’, all scheduled for release this year, might be affected.
However, any decisions regarding these films will depend on the outcome of the review. It is possible that some movies may be too far along in their marketing campaigns to make significant changes. For instance, ‘Haunted Mansion’ is set to hit theaters on July 28, and ‘The Marvels’, a superhero film scheduled for November 10, has already received a trailer release, Bloomberg reported.
Hollywood studios, including Disney, are facing challenges in promoting their upcoming releases due to the ongoing strikes by the Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild. These strikes prevent talent from participating in red carpet premieres, film festivals, and press interviews for projects produced by the striking companies.
In light of these circumstances, Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. is also considering the possibility of postponing some of its 2023 films, such as ‘Dune: Part Two’.
Disney, being the world’s largest entertainment company, already made changes to its release schedule earlier this year, pushing back the release dates of several major films by up to three years. The studio has experienced disappointing results at the box office recently, with movies like Indiana ‘Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’ not performing as well as expected.
