COLORS is set to bring a new romance drama, ‘Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar’, exploring love, age and societal expectations. The finite series, officially adapted from the acclaimed Korean series ‘Something In The Rain’, revolves around a relationship that challenges conventional notions about age gaps in love.

The show will premiere on September 28 at 9.30 pm and thereafter air Monday to Friday at 9.30 pm on COLORS and JioHotstar.

In a press release, COLORS said ‘Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar’ seeks to question why age should have more say in relationships than the way a person makes someone feel. The story follows Preeti Arora, a 35-year-old working woman in Delhi who faces workplace challenges while also dealing with constant questions about why she is still unmarried.

Preeti had been in a five-year relationship with Gaurav Gulati, 37, a man who appears to tick all the conventional boxes. However, his betrayal leaves her questioning the choices she had made and the life she believed she wanted.

At her lowest point, Preeti crosses paths with Aarav Ahuja, a 25-year-old game developer who returns to Delhi after studying in the US. Aarav is also Preeti’s former childhood admirer and happens to be her sister’s best friend. What begins as an unlikely friendship gradually develops into a relationship that challenges the rules Preeti has been taught to follow.

Aarav sees Preeti beyond society’s checklist and helps her feel seen, safe and happy, allowing her to rediscover herself after years of pressure and expectations. As Preeti navigates workplace politics, parental expectations, societal judgement and the fear of starting over at 35, she is forced to confront the choice between a relationship that looks right and one that feels right.

The series stars Aditi Dev Sharma as Preeti Arora, Daksh Puri as Aarav Ahuja and Kunal Karan Kapoor as Gaurav Gulati. The show is produced by Pocket Aces.

Speaking about playing Preeti Arora, Aditi Dev Sharma said that the role drew her to the idea of a woman confronting the rules she has been taught to believe in.

“Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar is my first modern age-gap romance, and what drew me to Preeti is that her biggest battle is with the rules she has been taught to believe in. At 35, society expects a woman to have her life and love figured out, making falling in love – especially with a younger man – feel like breaking an invisible rule,” she said.

Sharma added that Preeti represents many modern women who put their happiness aside because of age and expectations, with her journey focusing on unlearning those rules and discovering the freedom to choose love and start over at any age.

Daksh Puri, who plays Aarav Ahuja, said his character challenges the belief that maturity can be measured in years.

“Love may be timeless, but society has always tried to put a number on it. My character Aarav challenges the idea that maturity can be measured in years and believes that love can make magic happen,” Puri said.

He added that Aarav is emotionally mature and responsible, and sees Preeti for who she truly is rather than judging her by her age. According to Puri, Aarav’s feelings emerge from friendship, understanding and genuine connection, and he gives Preeti the space to rediscover herself rather than trying to “save” her.

Kunal Karan Kapoor, who plays Gaurav Gulati, said his character represents a conventional idea of success centred around status, approval and stability. He said Gaurav gradually loses sight of Preeti and begins viewing their relationship through what it offers him.

“His insecurity and need for validation eventually turn into possessiveness when he sees her moving on,” Kapoor said, adding that through Gaurav, the show explores how society often celebrates ambition in men while expecting women to compromise for stability.

‘Shayad Yahi Hai Pyaar’ premieres on September 28 at 9.30 pm and will air every Monday to Friday at 9.30 pm on COLORS and JioHotstar.
