Colors, a leading television channel, is set to present a compelling social drama titled ‘Neerja… Ek Nayi Pehchaan‘. The show, produced by Sunshine Productions, aims to challenge the stigma associated with sex workers.
It tells the story of Protima and her daughter Neerja, who strive to overcome societal prejudices while living in Kolkata’s Sonagachi, Asia’s largest red-light area.
‘Neerja… Ek Nayi Pehchaan’ delves into the sacrifices Protima makes to secure a better future for her daughter and protect her from Didun, the influential figure in Sonagachi. The show, premiering on July 10, explores themes of determination, love and defying societal norms.
The cast includes Sneha Wagh as Protima, Aastha Sharma as Neerja, Kamya Punjabi as Didun, and Rajveer Singh as Abeer.
The actors expressed their excitement and connection to the powerful storyline, highlighting the depth and complexity of their respective characters.
To raise awareness about the challenges faced by individuals living in red-light areas, Colors has launched a campaign featuring a vox pop video and the perspectives of influential figures. The campaign aims to emphasize the importance of granting dignity and equal opportunities to children from such areas.
