Citara, ‘Laloo’ makers explore Gujarat Film City plans at felicitation event

Citara, a prominent name in the entertainment and media space, felicitated the makers of the Gujarati blockbuster ‘Laloo’ at a special ceremony held in Ahmedabad, celebrating the film’s remarkable achievement of crossing the Rs.100 crore mark at the box office.

According to a press release issued on the occasion, ‘Laloo’ has rewritten records across Citara’s cinema network. Citara operates cinema-themed entertainment destinations primarily in India’s Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities, offering compact, technology-enabled theatres that have emerged as key platforms for regional cinema.

The success of Laloo is being seen as a defining moment for Gujarati cinema, underlining its growing reach and acceptance among audiences in India and overseas. At the event, the producer and director of the film expressed gratitude to the Gujarati diaspora, both in India and abroad, for their continued support, crediting viewers for helping the industry reach the ₹100 crore milestone.

Citara founders Tutu Sharma and Rahul Nehra said the film delivered unprecedented performance across their centres, including Jamkhambalia. They noted that the response has further strengthened Citara’s expansion plans, with the company aiming to establish 25 screens across Gujarat over the next 12 to 18 months. They also highlighted that the film’s emotional connect and focus on quality storytelling played a decisive role in its box office success.

Producer Ajay Balwant Padariya and director Ankit Sakhiya, along with the Citara team, said the achievement represents more than just commercial success. They described it as a signal of promising opportunities ahead, with Team Laloo committed to continuing its journey of entertaining and inspiring audiences across regions.

A key highlight of the evening was the announcement that Citara and the makers of Laloo have expressed interest in developing a state-of-the-art Film City in Gujarat, along with a world-class media school. A detailed proposal for the project is expected to be submitted to the government in the near future.

Actors Maulik Chauhan, Shruhad Goswami, Karan Joshi and Reeva Rachh, along with cinematographer Shubham Gajjar, were also present at the felicitation ceremony. The proposed Film City and media school aim to nurture local talent and position Gujarat as a global creative hub, in alignment with the broader vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
