Netflix’s Hindi family comedy ‘Chumbak’ will return with its second part on October 1, bringing eight fresh episodes centred on the intertwined lives of five families in a Mumbai neighbourhood.

The second instalment follows the first eight episodes, which premiered on September 10, Netflix said in a statement yesterday.

Created by Aatish Kapadia and produced by Jamnadas (JD) Majethia and Kapadia, ‘Chumbak’ follows a close-knit colony where neighbours become extensions of each other’s families and personal matters routinely turn into neighbourhood affairs.

The series blends family relationships, everyday disagreements, humour and nostalgia around contemporary urban Indian life.

The returning ensemble includes Neena Gupta, Deven Bhojani, Sumeet Raghvan, Sandeepa Dhar, Arjun Bijlani, Helly Shah, Sumeet Vyas, Manasi Parekh, Delnaaz Irani, Anant V. Joshi, Amyra Dastur and Atul Kumar.

The new episodes continue the stories of the colony’s five families as relationships and long-held secrets come under greater scrutiny.

Shah, who plays Twinkle, said, “In Part Two, the neighbours’ friendships are put to the test, but true to Aatish sir and JD sir’s style, it all comes wrapped in so much chaos and laughter.”

Bijlani, who plays Mickey, said the second part takes the chaos “several notches higher”, with the characters forced to confront secrets they have been keeping.

Kapadia and Majethia have described the series as an attempt to capture the familiar world of neighbourhoods where “nothing is ever truly ‘personal’”, with advice, gossip and everyday interactions turning neighbours into family.

Netflix India Series Head Tanya Bami said the show brings a “distinctive comic voice” to the platform through the collaboration with Kapadia and Majethia.
