The blockbuster Bengali film ‘Bohurupi’ has become the highest-grossing Bengali film of 2024, cementing its legacy in the region’s cinematic history, PTI reported.
According to an official from the Eastern India Motion Pictures Association (EIMPA), the movie has achieved a remarkable box office collection of ₹5.51 crore within nine weeks of release, surpassing the 2022 record held by ‘Projapati’, which earned ₹4.19 crore in 13 weeks.
Released earlier this year, ‘Bohurupi’ has captivated audiences with its engaging storyline, stellar performances, and strong word-of-mouth appeal. Its unprecedented success has set a new benchmark for the Bengali film industry, revitalizing interest in regional cinema.
Trailing behind ‘Bohurupi’ are Pradhan and ‘Tekka’, two other notable Bengali films that have also performed exceptionally well.
‘Pradhan’, which debuted during Christmas week in December 2023, enjoyed an extended run of consecutive houseful shows throughout the first quarter of 2024.
‘Tekka’, another fan favorite, rounded out the top three, showcasing the diversity of genres and stories resonating with audiences this year.
The success of ‘Bohurupi’ reflects the growing appetite for Bengali films, both in terms of quality storytelling and commercial viability. Its achievement has not only outshone previous hits but has also inspired filmmakers to push creative boundaries and explore new avenues in the industry.
With such remarkable milestones, 2024 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for Bengali cinema.
