The latest natural history marvel from the BBC, Asia, presented by the legendary Sir David Attenborough, is all set to make its India debut on July 18 via BBC Player, accessible through Prime Video India (add-on subscription) and Tata Play Binge.
According to Tata Play Binge, the BBC revealed that this seven-part landmark series is the first-ever dedicated exploration of the Asian continent by its award-winning Natural History Unit. Filmed over nearly four years, Asia dives deep into the continent’s remarkable biodiversity, capturing everything from the polar wilderness of Siberia to the coral seas of the Indian Ocean, the Gobi Desert, and the dense rainforests of Borneo.
The series is also musically distinctive—its trailer is set to an original track by the K-pop phenomenon SEVENTEEN, with a cinematic score by Jacob Shea and Laurentia Editha of Bleeding Fingers Music, blending a youthful energy with the gravity of natural storytelling.
According to a press note, Asia is not just a visual spectacle but also a poignant narrative of survival, adaptation, and resilience. In India, the series showcases unforgettable visuals of elephants navigating high-altitude tea plantations, wolves coursing through the Tibetan plateau, and rhinos playfully engaging in Nepal. The bustling city of Bhopal also makes a surprising appearance, juxtaposing urban life with the wild.
From the bamboo forests of the Himalayas to wildlife rescue missions in Singapore, Asia promises moments both tender and tense. One of the most gripping sequences includes Sri Lankan elephants blocking buses for food, a behaviour born of shrinking habitats, reminding audiences of the growing conflict between nature and human expansion.
Executive produced by Roger Webb and series produced by Matthew Wright, the series is a BBC Studios production co-produced with BBC America, ZDF (Germany), and France Télévisions. The cinematography captures the scale and wonder of the continent—Lake Baikal in Russia, the stark Lut Desert in Iran, and the vibrant metropolises of Tokyo, Bangkok, and Hanoi all play central roles.
Through Sir David Attenborough’s signature narration, the series delivers a heartfelt message about climate change, environmental urgency, and the need for sustainable coexistence. With India’s growing appetite for premium, nature-driven documentaries, Asia arrives at a critical juncture.
Audiences can stream the series starting July 18 on BBC Player in India, available via Prime Video Channels and Tata Play Binge.
