Apple TV has unveiled the first-look images and premiere date for its upcoming crime drama series ‘The Wanted Man’, starring and executive produced by Hugh Laurie. The eight-episode series will premiere globally on January 6, 2027.

According to an Apple TV press release, Hugh Laurie plays Felix Carmichael, an organised crime boss who faces a major crisis after being betrayed by someone inside his own firm. Following the betrayal, Felix is sent to the notorious Staplehurst prison, where he is forced to fight for survival and confront his own violent past. With his family, business and fortune at risk, Felix decides to attempt an escape from prison.

The series has been created, written and developed by George Kay, who is known for shows including ‘Hijack’, ‘War’ and ‘Lupin’. Kay also serves as an executive producer on the series. ‘The Wanted Man’ is co-produced by New Pictures, a Banijay Entertainment company, and Kay’s Observatory Pictures.

The cast includes Thandiwe Newton, Fionn Whitehead, Gina McKee, Hazel Doupe, Elliott Heffernan and Stephen Dillane. Newton is known for ‘Westworld’ and ‘Crash’, while Whitehead has appeared in ‘Dunkirk’ and ‘Emily’. Stephen Dillane is known for ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Hours’.

The series will open with two episodes on January 6, 2027. After that, one new episode will be released every Wednesday, with the finale scheduled for February 17, 2027.

‘The Wanted Man’ is directed by Jakob Verbruggen, Rachel Leiterman and Lisa Gunning. Verbruggen has previously directed ‘The Fall’, ‘London Spy’ and ‘Dark Matter’, while Leiterman has worked on ‘The Buccaneers’ and Gunning has directed episodes of ‘Black Doves’.
