Apple is reportedly planning to launch Apple TV+ in China through a strategic partnership with telecom giant China Mobile. This move, if finalized, would make Apple TV+ the first US streaming service to enter the Chinese market.
According to a report by The Economic Times, Apple and China Mobile are negotiating a deal that would allow China Mobile to offer Apple TV+ subscriptions, possibly featuring its content on set-top boxes. The revenue would be shared between the two companies. However, due to Chinese regulations, Apple’s content would not be directly included in the iPhone TV app within the region.
The proposed deal, initially set for announcement last year, did not materialize due to unspecified issues. Current negotiation statuses remain undisclosed. Pricing for Apple TV+ in China is expected to be significantly lower than in the US, reflecting local consumer pricing power and content preferences.
Apple is also exploring launching other services like Apple Arcade in China. Recent rumors suggest Apple is developing a TV app for Android to expand its subscriber base further.
