Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming directorial venture ‘Bandar’ (Monkey in a Cage), led by Bobby Deol, is all set to make its world premiere at the 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), to be held from September 4 to 14, 2025.
The film has been selected under TIFF’s prestigious ‘Special Presentations’ category, which showcases high-profile premieres and celebrated auteur cinema from around the world. Kashyap’s return to TIFF marks yet another international milestone in his career, following several previous selections at global festivals, according to a PTI report.
‘Bandar’ is inspired by true events and delves into gritty, emotionally intense themes — a signature hallmark of the filmmaker’s storytelling style.
Deol, who plays the lead in the film, took to Instagram to unveil the official poster and share the news. “The story that should not have been told… but is the official selection at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival 2025. Our film inspired from true events is premiering at #tiff50 #Bandar #MonkeyinaCage,” he wrote in the caption, creating intrigue around the film’s narrative.
The poster features an intense-looking Deol, hinting at a dark and powerful role. While further details about the plot remain tightly under wraps, the film has already begun generating significant buzz in both Indian and international circuits.
TIFF’s Special Presentations slate often acts as a launchpad for films eyeing major award season runs, and ‘Bandar’ being part of that list reflects its global potential.
