Get ready for an electrifying mix of action and laughter as two generations of comedy collide in ‘The Pickup’, Amazon MGM’s much-anticipated heist comedy featuring Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson. With its global release scheduled for August 6, 2025, on Prime Video, the film is creating waves not just for its all-star cast, but also for the heartwarming bond between the lead actors off-screen.
While promoting the film on ‘The Tonight Show’ starring Jimmy Fallon, Davidson didn’t hold back his excitement about starring alongside his longtime idol, Eddie Murphy. Sharing childhood memories of first discovering Murphy as Donkey in Shrek, the SNL alum confessed, “It’s a dream come true… I was seven when I first heard that voice. I didn’t even know who he was, but I went to F.Y.E. and Sam Goody and found the Eddie Murphy section. I thought, ‘This Donkey guy rules!’, According to a Prime Video press release.
Pete went on to praise Murphy’s iconic stand-up special Delirious, calling it one of the best ever. He humorously recalled how his mother would secretly let him watch Murphy’s content, which left a lasting impact on his comedic instincts. “Donkey’s crazy. Donkey got some ideas,” he said with a laugh.
Describing the experience of working with his idol, Davidson said, “He’s my hero… It’s Eddie and then everyone else. He’s in a league of his own.” The comedian even admitted that he accepted the role in The Pickup without reading the script — just knowing that Murphy was involved was enough to seal the deal.
Directed by Tim Story and written by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows, ‘The Pickup’ blends slick heist elements with gut-busting humor. The film features Eddie Murphy, Keke Palmer, and Pete Davidson in central roles and promises to be a high-energy entertainer for all ages. Set against a backdrop of thrilling action and sharp comedy, the film is set to stream in six languages — English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada — on Prime Video.
With Davidson’s fanboy energy meeting Murphy’s legendary status, ‘The Pickup’ offers more than just another action comedy — it’s a generational celebration of what makes audiences laugh.
