ABP Ananda commemorated the 20th anniversary of its prestigious ‘Sera Bangali’ event by honouring 20 remarkable women whose achievements have broken barriers and inspired change.
In an event on November 8, excellence across science, business, sports, arts, social justice, and more, was celebrated.
For two decades, ‘Sera Bangali’ has spotlighted individuals shaping Bengal’s legacy. This year, it focused on empowering women who embody resilience, innovation, and courage, the TV channel said in a media statement.
The honorees included the following:
- Anasuya Sengupta (Actor): Renowned for her transformative contributions to Indian cinema.
- Priyanka Mallick (Fashion Designer) & Modhura Palit (Cinematographer): Recognized for their creative brilliance.
- Dr. Anindita Jha (Healthcare) & Monalisa Maity (Education): Honored for their dedication to impactful societal change.
- Sumita Banerjee (Environmentalist): Acknowledged for championing sustainability.
- Nandini Bhattacharjee (Gender Neutrality Activist): Recognized for advocating men’s rights and gender equality.
Trail-blazers like Commander Satovisa Bandhopadhyay (pilot), Dipta Ghosh (cab driver), Tumpa Das (funeral director) and Nandini Bhowmik (Bengal’s first female priest) were celebrated for breaking gender stereotypes.
Athletes such as Sayani Das (swimmer), Susmita Debnath (competitive yogi) and Ankita Bhakat (archer) made Bengal proud in sports. Scientific contributions by Dr. Shanta Dutta, Dr. Tanusri Saha Dasgupta and Dr. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay showcased the state’s intellectual prowess.
Rimjhim Sinha, an advocate for reclaiming women’s empowerment with her ‘Night is Ours’ campaign, was also recognized.
