Emmy-winning actor Aaron Paul, renowned for his role in ‘Breaking Bad’, is set to star in the upcoming psychological thriller The Midnight Pool. The film will be directed by James McTeigue, best known for helming ‘V’ for ‘Vendetta’ .
According to an IANS report, ‘The Midnight Pool’ is based on a 2022 Black List script penned by Jonathan Easley. The narrative follows Johnny Black (portrayed by Paul), a disillusioned journalist who, after experiencing a personal tragedy, becomes entangled with an elite and enigmatic society. His pursuit of a career-defining story leads him into a world of illusion, manipulation, and altered realities.
Production of the film is a collaborative effort involving Traction, McTeigue, and Gramercy Park Media, which is also financing the project. The movie is set to be introduced at the Cannes Film Festival by the newly launched company Stoic, alongside CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the project, Paul stated, “The moment Midnight Pool landed on my desk I knew I had to sit down with James. The world created by Jonathan Easley really stayed with me long after I put the script down. The idea of James holding the reins to tell this story got me extremely excited to tackle this world with him. We sat down in my backyard and spoke for hours about the love of filmmaking. After that meeting, it was very clear we both wanted to lean in. I am such a huge admirer of James and I feel truly blessed to be on this journey with him and the rest of the team”.
The production team includes Jason Tamasco and Zak Kristofek for Traction, James McTeigue, and Ford Corbett and Nathan Klingher for Gramercy Park Media. Executive producers are Mason Eways, Keith Danko, Joshua Harris, Mark Fasano, Brandon Burrows, Nat McCormick, and Danny Gusman.
The Midnight Pool is anticipated to be a compelling addition to the psychological thriller genre, combining Paul’s intense performance with McTeigue’s directorial prowess.
