Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has appointed Kausik K Misra as Head – Programming, Non-Fiction for its Bengali general entertainment channel, Sony AATH, strengthening its leadership team as the network continues to expand its regional content offerings.
Misra announced the development through a LinkedIn post, marking his return to the television industry after a year-long sabbatical and relocation to Kolkata. The move also signals a new chapter in his media career, bringing with him over 15 years of experience across content, marketing, digital, public relations, and monetisation.
Sharing his thoughts on the new role, Misra described the past year as a transformative period filled with travel, self-reflection, family time, and personal growth. He said the break offered valuable lessons and reinforced the importance of maintaining strong professional relationships throughout one’s career.
In his post, Misra expressed enthusiasm about joining Sony AATH and contributing to the Bengali entertainment market, a space he has long admired. He also thanked Ambesh Tiwari, Business Head at Sony Pictures Networks India, for giving him the opportunity to return to television and begin what he described as his “second innings” in the industry.
Before joining Sony AATH, Misra spent nearly 15 years at Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., where he held several leadership positions across programming and marketing functions. Most recently, he served as Head of Non-Fiction Content from June 2022 to April 2025, overseeing the broadcaster’s non-fiction content strategy.
Prior to that, he was Director – Programming, Non-Fiction at Zee TV, where he played a key role in shaping some of the network’s flagship reality and entertainment properties. Over the years, he also held positions including Assistant Vice President – Marketing, Senior Brand Manager, Brand Manager, and Management Trainee, gaining extensive experience across content creation, audience engagement, and brand development.
With his strong background in non-fiction programming and content strategy, Misra is expected to lead Sony AATH’s efforts in developing innovative and audience-focused non-fiction formats for Bengali viewers.
An alumnus of Symbiosis Institute of Media and Communication, Pune, Misra holds an MBA in Communication Management and a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from St. Xavier’s College.
His appointment comes at a time when broadcasters are increasingly investing in regional content and original programming to strengthen audience engagement across local markets.
