Prime Video’s latest superhero offering ‘Spider-Noir’ is drawing attention worldwide for its distinctive blend of noir storytelling, crime drama and the Spider-Man universe. Starring Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage in the lead role, the series transports audiences to the dark and dangerous streets of 1930s New York, presenting a version of the iconic web-slinger unlike any seen before.

Now streaming on Prime Video, the series has received praise from critics and viewers for its atmospheric visual style, mature storytelling and fresh interpretation of Marvel’s beloved character. At the centre of the project is showrunner and executive producer Oren Uziel, whose previous work includes ‘The Lost City’, ‘22 Jump Street’ and ‘Mortal Kombat’.

Speaking about what attracted him to the project, Uziel said the opportunity to work with producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Amy Pascal played a major role in his decision to come on board. Having collaborated with them previously, he was immediately intrigued by the concept of combining a live-action Spider-Man story with the world of classic noir cinema.

According to Uziel, the setting of 1930s New York and the show’s deep roots in the noir genre made the project particularly exciting. A longtime admirer of film noir, he described Spider-Noir as a rare opportunity to explore a genre he has loved for years while also contributing to a unique corner of the larger Marvel universe.

One of the key differences, Uziel explained, lies in the show’s protagonist. Unlike previous Spider-Man adaptations centred around the youthful Peter Parker, ‘Spider-Noir’ follows an older and more battle-scarred character. Known simply as “The Spider” and identified as Ben Reilly rather than Peter Parker, this version is portrayed as a hardened private investigator navigating a city consumed by crime and corruption.

Uziel noted that the character is far removed from the traditional superhero image audiences have come to expect. This Spider is an adult who drinks, smokes and is willing to bend the rules when necessary. Shaped by years of hardship and personal struggles, he represents a darker and more complex interpretation of the Spider-Man mythology.

Leading the cast is Nicolas Cage, who reprises the character after previously voicing Spider-Man Noir in the animated film ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’. He is joined by an ensemble cast that includes Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Abraham Popoola, Karen Rodriguez, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson. The series also features an extensive guest cast including Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Amanda Schull, Amy Aquino and Andrew Robinson, among others.

Produced by Sony Pictures Television exclusively for MGM+ and Prime Video, the series features Harry Bradbeer as director and executive producer for its first two episodes. Uziel and Steve Lightfoot serve as co-showrunners and executive producers.

Available across India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, ‘Spider-Noir’ can be streamed in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Adding to its unique appeal, viewers can experience the series in both authentic black-and-white and full-colour formats, further enhancing its classic noir atmosphere.

With its gritty storytelling, period setting and unconventional hero, ‘Spider-Noir’ offers a bold new take on one of popular culture’s most recognisable characters, bringing a darker edge to the Spider-Man legacy while staying true to the spirit of classic detective fiction.
