JioHotstar is stepping into the long-format content space with the launch of its upcoming Malayalam series ‘Cousins and Kalyanams’. The romantic comedy drama, which revolves around the lives, relationships, and emotional journeys of six cousins, is set to premiere on May 29 and marks the platform’s first long-running original show.
According to a press release, the series will span 60 episodes, with four episodes scheduled to release every Friday. The show explores themes of friendship, love, family dynamics, misunderstandings, and emotional bonding, all unfolding against the backdrop of seven weddings that bring the cousins together through different phases of life.
Produced under The Epic Company banner, ‘Cousins and Kalyanams’ has been directed by Vishnu Chandran and Kannan Thamarakkulam, while the screenplay has been written by Praveen Balakrishnan. The makers are positioning the series as a family entertainer that blends humour, romance, and emotional storytelling in a relatable setting.
The series stars Nainita Maria, Nandita, Manaswini Ram, Manya Mallika, Siddharth Babu, and Krishna Vijay in lead roles. The technical team includes cinematographer Noushad Sheriff, editor Sooraj E.S., and music composer Sudeep Palanad.
With this project, JioHotstar appears to be strengthening its regional entertainment strategy by investing in longer-format storytelling designed for digital audiences. The move also reflects the growing demand for culturally rooted family dramas and regional originals on streaming platforms.
Apart from Malayalam, the series will also be available in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi, allowing the platform to reach a wider audience base across India. The show will stream exclusively on JioHotstar’s digital platform starting May 29.
