Bharti Airtel has crossed a major milestone of 650 million customers globally, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s largest telecom operators. The company, which operates across India and multiple African markets, credited this growth to its expanding digital services portfolio and continued investments in infrastructure.
According to an stock exchange filing, the milestone reflects the company’s sustained scale-up across both regions. In India, Airtel’s mobile customer base stands at 368 million, while its Africa operations contribute 179 million users across 14 countries, underlining the company’s strong international footprint, ANI reported.
The company highlighted its leadership in next-generation connectivity, noting that it was among the first in India to roll out 5G Plus services. Airtel continues to build a converged digital ecosystem, with offerings such as Xstream AirFiber (FWA) and integrated IPTV services driving deeper customer engagement. It currently serves over 13 million homes with high-speed internet and more than 15 million households through its Digital TV platform.
Looking ahead, Airtel is investing in bridging the digital divide through partnerships with satellite providers such as Eutelsat OneWeb and SpaceX. These collaborations aim to leverage Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations to deliver high-speed, low-latency broadband connectivity to remote and underserved areas, including maritime and aviation sectors.
