Amazon MX Player has unveiled the trailer of its upcoming crime drama ‘Kaptaan’, setting the stage for a high-intensity series that blends action, emotion and layered storytelling. The show, headlined by Saqib Saleem and Siddharth Nigam, is set to stream for free on the platform from April 3.
As per an Amazon MX Player press release, ‘Kaptaan’ is set in the charged backdrop of Jwalabad, where crime has evolved into structured cartels and power is dictated not just by chaos, but by control. The narrative follows SSP Samardeep, played by Saleem, a decorated officer known for his unorthodox methods, as he navigates a complex web of organised crime, counterfeit operations and rising turf wars.
The trailer expands the story beyond isolated incidents, opening up a larger network of criminal enterprises and simmering rivalries. At the centre of the narrative is the inevitable face-off between Samardeep and Kabir, portrayed by Nigam, as past histories resurface and begin to shape present decisions. What begins as a crackdown soon spirals into a far more layered conflict, where every move carries consequences and the stakes continue to rise.
Directed by Jatin Wagle and produced by Pammi Baweja and Harman Baweja under the banner of Baweja Studios, the series also features Kavita Kaushik, Varun Badola, Anjumm Shharma, Aarif Zakaria, Pooja Gor, Vikram Kochhar and Anushka Kaushik in pivotal roles.
Speaking about the show, Saleem described his character as emotionally demanding and internally conflicted, highlighting the tension between past and present that shapes Samardeep’s decisions. Nigam, who plays Kabir, noted that his character’s unpredictability and emotional intensity add to the show’s gripping narrative, making the conflict deeply personal as the story unfolds.
Amogh Dusad, Head of Content at Amazon MX Player, emphasised that ‘Kaptaan’ explores the intersection of power, conflict and personal motivations, combining elements of cop drama and action with character-driven storytelling. Kavita Kaushik added that revisiting a cop role in this series brought a fresh perspective, with her character adding a distinct energy to the narrative.
