Amazon MX Player has launched its latest socio-political thriller ‘Sankalp’, marking the much-awaited OTT debut of veteran actor Nana Patekar. Backed by Jio Studios and directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Prakash Jha, the series explores themes of power, ideology and influence through a gripping narrative set against a political backdrop.
According to an Amazon MX Player press release, the series delves into the story of an educator who controls the system through his bureaucratic protégés, weaving together themes of ‘Shiksha’, ‘Samarpan’ and ‘Satta’. The show brings together a strong ensemble cast including Sanjay Kapoor, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Neeraj Kabi, Kubbra Sait and Kranti Prakash Jha, presenting a layered narrative around mentorship, loyalty and the dynamics of authority.
Speaking about his role as Chief Minister Prashant Singh, Sanjay Kapoor shared insights into his character and his experience of working with Prakash Jha. He revealed that while Nana Patekar’s character sets the story in motion, his own role plays a crucial part in the twists that unfold later. Reflecting on the opportunity, Kapoor said that being considered for the project itself was a moment of pride for him.
“Jab Prakash ji ne mujhe show ke liye bulaya aur kahani ka ek hissa sunaya… mere liye toh wahi ek khushi ki baat thi ki Prakash ji considered me good enough to call me for this show, and for me that was enough,” Kapoor said, adding that working with Jha had long been on his “bucket list.” He described the experience as an honour, noting that he had always admired the filmmaker’s work and never imagined he would eventually get the opportunity to collaborate with him.
The series positions itself as a gripping socio-political drama that examines the intersections of power and personal ambition, while also highlighting how influence operates within institutional frameworks. With its strong performances and a narrative rooted in contemporary themes, ‘Sankalp’ aims to resonate with audiences looking for thought-provoking storytelling.
‘Sankalp’ is now streaming for free on Amazon MX Player and is accessible across multiple platforms, including the MX Player app, the Amazon shopping app, Prime Video, Fire TV, Smart TVs and Airtel Xstream, expanding its reach to a wide base of viewers across the country.
