ZEE5 has announced the digital premiere of ‘Pookie’, a romantic comedy directed by Ganesh Chandra in his directorial debut. The film will begin streaming exclusively on ZEE5 from March 13 across four South Indian languages — Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
‘Pookie’ is produced by Vijay Antony under the banner of Vijay Antony Film Corporation. The film features Ajay Dhishan and R. K. Dhanusha, who makes her debut as the female lead. The supporting cast includes Pandiarajan, Sunil and Lakshmi Manchu, IANS reported from Mumbai.
The film follows the journey of a couple navigating the emotional complexities of their relationship. As they consider separating, they slowly realise that their bond may still hold meaning, reflecting the confusion, affection and contradictions that often shape modern relationships. Blending humour with moments of vulnerability, the narrative explores how love can evolve even in uncertain circumstances.
Speaking about the project, Vijay Antony, who has also handled the film’s music and editing, said the story captures a reality that many couples experience today. “Pookie is a story that feels simple on the surface but reflects something very real about relationships today. Director Ganesh Chandra has brought a fresh energy and honesty to this film. This project captures both humour and vulnerability in such a relatable way,” he said.
Actor Lakshmi Manchu also shared her experience of working on the film, highlighting its emotional warmth. “There is a beautiful simplicity in Pookie. The film captures the awkwardness, tenderness and unpredictability couples experience. Being part of this project was truly enjoyable, and I believe audiences on Tamil ZEE5 will connect with its warmth,” she said.
With its digital release across multiple South Indian languages, ‘Pookie’ aims to reach a wider regional audience, bringing a light-hearted yet relatable relationship story to viewers on ZEE5 this March.
