Netflix to premiere ‘Made In Korea’ on March 12

Netflix has announced the premiere of its upcoming cross-cultural feature film ‘Made In Korea’, set to stream from March 12. Produced by Rise East Entertainment and written and directed by Ra.Karthik, the film brings together Indian actor Priyanka Mohan and South Korean actor Park Hye-Jin in a story that bridges the cultural worlds of Tamil Nadu and Seoul.

According to an IANS report, the film explores themes of aspiration, identity and belonging while highlighting the growing cultural exchange between India and South Korea. The project is part of Netflix’s broader strategy of backing locally rooted stories that resonate with global audiences.

‘Made In Korea’ follows Shenbagam, fondly known as Shenba, a young woman from a small town in Tamil Nadu whose fascination with Korean culture begins in childhood. Her dream to experience the culture firsthand leads her to Seoul, where reality turns out to be more complex than she had imagined. The journey sets her on a path of resilience, self-discovery and unexpected connections, shaping a narrative that blends emotion with cross-cultural exploration.

Sharing his inspiration, director Ra.Karthik said he was fascinated by the deep cultural connections and historical similarities between Korean and Tamil heritage, which inspired him to tell a personal and hopeful story. He described the film as a slice-of-life narrative crafted with warmth that celebrates the unique cultural bond between the two regions.

The film also forms part of Netflix India’s continued focus on strengthening its regional content slate. Monika Shergill, Vice-President – Content at Netflix India, said the platform remains committed to stories that are deeply rooted in local culture yet resonate beyond borders. She noted that the film portrays the aspirations of a young girl from a Tamil Nadu village whose fascination with Korea shapes her dreams, presenting a deeply human story of identity and belonging. The project is produced by Sreenidhi Sagar.

Leading the film, Priyanka Mohan brings emotional depth to the character of Shenba, supported by Park Hye-Jin and No Ho-jin in pivotal roles that add authenticity to its cross-cultural narrative. Speaking about her role, Mohan said she felt an immediate connection with Shenba’s journey, describing the character’s dream of Korea as rooted in curiosity and wonder.

With its exploration of cultural connection and personal ambition, ‘Made In Korea’ underscores Netflix’s push towards global collaborations while strengthening the intersection of regional storytelling and international narratives.
