JioHotstar has announced a significant update to its subscription model, introducing monthly plans across all its tiers to give viewers greater flexibility in how they access content. The new plans, effective January 28, 2026, are aimed at new subscribers and start at Rs 79 per month, reflecting changing consumer viewing habits and the rapid rise of large-screen and connected TV consumption in India.
According to a press release, the move is designed to make JioHotstar more accessible while aligning its pricing with evolving audience preferences. Monthly plans will now be available across the Mobile, Super and Premium tiers, alongside existing quarterly and annual options. The company said this structure allows both individual users and families to choose plans that best suit their viewing needs, whether on smartphones or on connected TVs at home.
The introduction of monthly packs comes at a time when JioHotstar has seen sharp growth in large-screen viewership. Over the past 11 months since launch, consumption on connected TVs has expanded rapidly, prompting the platform to recalibrate pricing to better support high-quality, customised living-room experiences. While the Mobile plan continues to cater to on-the-go viewing, the Super and Premium tiers are positioned for users seeking a richer, multi-device and big-screen experience.
Under the revised pricing, the Mobile plan will be available at Rs 79 per month, Rs 149 quarterly and Rs 499 annually, allowing streaming on one mobile device at a time. The Super plan is priced at Rs 149 per month, Rs 349 quarterly and Rs 1,099 annually, offering access on up to two devices across mobile, web and supported living-room devices. The Premium tier, aimed at households and power users, is priced at Rs 299 per month, Rs 699 quarterly and Rs 2,199 annually, with access on up to four devices and an ad-free entertainment experience, except during live sports and select live shows.
Content access has also been fine-tuned under the new structure. Hollywood content will now be included by default in the Super and Premium tiers for new subscribers. Mobile users, however, will continue to access Hollywood titles through an optional add-on, priced at Rs 49 per month, Rs 129 quarterly and Rs 399 annually, allowing viewers to customise their subscription based on content preferences.
Importantly, JioHotstar has clarified that there will be no change in pricing or benefits for existing subscribers, provided their auto-renewals remain active. This move is intended to ensure continuity and avoid disruption for the platform’s current user base.
The update comes at a pivotal phase in JioHotstar’s growth journey. The platform has crossed one billion downloads on Google Play and now serves more than 450 million monthly active users across every pin-code in India. With a library exceeding 300,000 hours of content across languages and genres, JioHotstar has positioned itself among a small group of global streaming platforms operating at such scale.
Commenting on the announcement, Sushant Sreeram, Head – SVOD Business and Chief Marketing Officer at JioStar, said the refreshed subscription options are intended to keep pace with how audiences prefer to watch content today. He noted that the new plans bring greater choice and flexibility, while supporting continued investment in premium storytelling, live sports and a high-quality streaming experience for viewers across the country.
With this latest update, JioHotstar is doubling down on its strategy of inclusion, flexibility and scale, as it continues to shape the direction of India’s rapidly evolving streaming ecosystem.
