Uttar Pradesh Kabaddi League’s newest franchise, Gazab Ghaziabad, has welcomed actor Tusshar Kapoor as the team’s Co-owner, marking a notable addition to the league’s growing lineup of stakeholders.
The franchise, owned by Lakhsya Sharma and Deepak Singh, announced the development on Thursday, adding that Tusshar’s presence brings a familiar and respected face as the team begins its journey in UPKL.
According to the press release issued by the franchise, Tusshar’s decision to associate with Gazab Ghaziabad stems from his interest in championing homegrown sport and contributing to a kabaddi ecosystem that continues to expand across Uttar Pradesh. His involvement is expected to lend experience and stability to the team’s leadership, while reinforcing kabaddi’s deep cultural presence in the region.
Sharing his excitement on joining the franchise, Tusshar Kapoor said, “I’m excited to join Gazab Ghaziabad as Co-owner. Kabaddi continues to grow as a sport across the country, and I am happy to be a part of it. My best wishes to Sambhav and the entire UPKL team for the upcoming season. Apna Bharat, Apna Khel, Khel Raha Hai Mera Pradesh.”
Team owners Lakhsya Sharma and Deepak Singh said Tusshar’s entry comes at a crucial moment, as Gazab Ghaziabad works on shaping its identity as a new franchise. They noted that his clarity and grounded approach will help guide the team as it builds from the ground up, offering both players and support staff a steady, reassuring presence.
Aishwarya Gautam, CEO of SJ Uplift Kabaddi, highlighted the significance of such partnerships in strengthening the league’s long-term framework. She said Tusshar’s involvement reflects a rising interest from individuals who want to contribute meaningfully to the sport and support the ecosystem being built across franchises.
Simran Malik, COO of SJ Uplift Kabaddi, added that every new franchise experiences a learning curve, and having the right people onboard helps smoothen that process. Tusshar’s association, she said, brings an additional layer of support as Gazab Ghaziabad prepares for its first season in the league.
UPKL, owned by SJ Uplift Kabaddi, positions itself as one of India’s strongest state-level kabaddi leagues. The second season will be hosted at the Noida Indoor Stadium and will begin on December 24, 2025. The league has also secured a multi-year broadcast partnership with ZEE Sports, expanding its reach as it continues to grow.
