After a successful theatrical run, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s much-awaited historical drama ‘The Bengal Files’ is all set for its world digital premiere on ZEE5 Global from November 21, 2025.
Produced by Abhishek Agarwal Arts and I Am Buddha Productions, the film stars Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumar, Simrat Kaur, and Saswata Chatterjee in pivotal roles.
Marking the third chapter of Agnihotri’s acclaimed ‘Files Trilogy’, following The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files, the film dives into one of the most turbulent chapters of India’s history. Set against the backdrop of pre-Independence Bengal, it revisits the events of the 1946 Great Calcutta Killings (Direct Action Day) — exploring how the violence and political unrest of that time shaped India’s journey toward Partition and Independence.
Through its powerful storytelling, ‘The Bengal Files’ delves deep into themes of ideology, identity, and resilience, uncovering stories of courage and tragedy that history often overlooks.
Speaking about the premiere, Kaveri Das, Business Head – Hindi, ZEE5, said, “At ZEE5 Global, our constant endeavour is to bring stories that not only entertain but also spark thought and mirror the many layers of our society. The Bengal Files is one such powerful cinematic experience. After a successful theatrical run, we’re delighted to make the film available to audiences worldwide from 21st November. As a platform, we remain committed to offering diverse perspectives through storytelling, and this film is a truly thought-provoking addition to that journey.”
Director Vivek Agnihotri expressed, “The Bengal Files is not just a film; it’s a reminder. It’s about the forgotten chapters of our collective conscience and the price of silence. Through this story, we wanted to bring Bengal’s pain, courage, and truth to the forefront. I’m glad that through ZEE5 Global, this story will now reach every home and every viewer who wants to know what really happened.”
Producer and actor Pallavi Joshi shared, “Each film in the Files Trilogy has been an emotional and artistic awakening for us. With The Bengal Files, we wanted to capture a truth buried under decades of denial. Every performance and every scene is rooted in reality and emotion. I’m proud that ZEE5 Global is taking this story to a wider audience who can now experience it beyond the big screen.”
Veteran actor Anupam Kher added, “Some stories stay with you forever, and The Files trilogy is one of them. This isn’t just about history — it’s about humanity. When I read the script, I felt an ache that only truth can cause. Portraying this role was emotionally exhausting yet deeply fulfilling. Films like this remind us that courage is not just about standing up in battle but standing up for truth. I believe every viewer who watches The Bengal Files on ZEE5 Global will feel the same power and emotion we felt while making it.”
With its global premiere on November 21, ‘The Bengal Files’ aims to reignite conversations around one of India’s most intense historical moments while completing the journey of Agnihotri’s Files Trilogy that began with curiosity, continued with confrontation, and now culminates in remembrance.
