Amazon MGM Studios has announced that actor Marc Rissmann, known for his role in 1883, will star in its upcoming historical drama series ‘Bloodaxe’, a gripping new Viking saga. The series chronicles the rise of one of history’s most notorious Norse raiders, Erik Bloodaxe, and the turbulent world around him.
According to a PTI report, the show will feature Xavier Molyneux as Erik Bloodaxe and Jessica Madsen as Gunnhild, the Mother of Kings. Set in a time of war, political intrigue, and betrayal, the story captures the struggle for the Norwegian throne amid clashing rivals and shifting loyalties, both within Scandinavia and beyond.
The official series logline describes a kingdom “torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties, and bloody betrayals.” As Erik and Gunnhild fight to secure their rule, the narrative brings in the machinations of other Scandinavian kings as well as a powerful English ruler, setting the stage for a story marked by thrilling battles, intense drama, and epic Norse mythology.
‘Bloodaxe’ promises to deliver a combination of historical authenticity and cinematic storytelling, exploring the power struggles and personal conflicts that shaped one of the most formidable figures in Viking history. With Rissmann’s addition to the cast, the series aims to attract both history enthusiasts and fans of action-packed drama, highlighting Amazon MGM Studios’ continued investment in premium, globally resonant content.
