‘Jhamkudi’, the record-breaking Gujarati horror-comedy that captivated audiences last year, is now set for its Hindi World Digital Premiere on ShemarooMe.
The film, which has already established itself as one of the highest-grossing Gujarati titles in recent times, blends supernatural folklore with humor and suspense to deliver a unique cinematic experience.
Starring digital star Viraj Ghelani in his much-awaited Gujarati film debut and National Award-winner Manasi Parekh, who also lends her voice to the catchy rap-style title track, ‘Jhamkudi’ brings together scares, laughs, and drama in equal measure.
Directed by Umang Vyas, the film boasts a strong ensemble including Ojas Rawal, Sanjay Goradia, Jayesh More, Krunal Pandit, Chetan Daiya, and Bhavini Jani. Shot inside the centuries-old Gondal Palace, the film draws on both its haunting atmosphere and chilling legends to heighten the experience.
Set in the cursed village of Raniwada, the story revolves around a vengeful witch, Jhamkudi, who unleashes chaos during Navratri. Unlike conventional horror films, it balances moments of fear with humor, creating an entertaining narrative that resonated strongly with Gujarati audiences.
Speaking about the Hindi premiere, actor and producer Manasi Parekh said the film gave Gujarati cinema a fresh take on horror-comedy. “The way people connected with it gave us so much confidence in the story we were telling. Bringing it in Hindi now feels like the right way forward, and I’m excited for a wider audience to enjoy the fun and thrills we created,” she said.
Viraj Ghelani, who dubbed his own scenes for the Hindi version, called the film “special” as it marked his industry debut. “It felt like reliving the character all over again for a whole new audience. The story and humor are universal, and I believe people everywhere will connect with it,” he added.
With its Hindi release, ‘Jhamkudi’ is expected to carry Gujarati cinema’s success to newer audiences, while strengthening ShemarooMe’s position as a platform that champions regional blockbusters for national and global viewership.
