Academy Award-nominated actress Mary McDonnell has signed on to two high-profile projects — stepping into the Marvel universe with Disney’s upcoming series ‘Vision’ and starring in the feature adaptation of William R. Forstchen’s acclaimed 2009 novel One Second After.
According to a UNI report, in ‘One Second After’, McDonnell will be seen as Jen, the perceptive and resilient mother-in-law to John (played by Josh Holloway), who is forced to become the guardian of his daughters after an electromagnetic pulse devastates modern civilisation, plunging society into chaos. The apocalyptic drama is directed by Scott Rogers, known for his dynamic stunt coordination and second-unit work in ‘Tron: Ares’ and ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’. Filming begins this month in Sofia, Bulgaria, from a screenplay by J. Michael Straczynski, the celebrated writer behind ‘Babylon 5’ and ‘Sense8’.
While details of McDonnell’s role in Marvel’s ‘Vision’ series remain under wraps, the Disney production has already wrapped principal photography over the summer. A spiritual successor to WandaVision, the series is helmed by creator Terry Matalas and will see Paul Bettany return as the android Vision, alongside James Spader reprising Ultron. A release date for the show is yet to be confirmed.
McDonnell, widely respected for her depth and versatility, has been twice nominated for the Academy Awards for her performances in ‘Dances With Wolves’ and ‘Passion Fish’. She also earned Emmy nominations for her roles in ‘The Closer’ and ‘ER’.
