Actor Aparshakti Khurana is all set to make his Tamil cinema debut with the upcoming high-octane thriller ‘ROOT – Running Out of Time’.
Known for his nuanced performances in Hindi films and OTT projects, Khurana will be stepping into an entirely new linguistic and cinematic space with this pan-India project that promises to blend action, suspense, and emotion in equal measure.
According to a PTI report, ‘ROOT’ is being directed by debutant filmmaker Vijay Veer, and will see Aparshakti in a lead role that challenges both his physicality and acting range. The film’s makers have described it as a fast-paced thriller built around the theme of survival, where every ticking second holds life-altering consequences. Billed as a story that unfolds in real-time, ROOT explores the psychological and emotional journey of a man caught in extraordinary circumstances.
Khurana, who has steadily built a reputation for his versatility—from comic roles in ‘Stree’ and ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’to more intense performances in ‘Dhokha: Round D Corner’ and ‘Jubilee’—said the decision to make his Tamil debut was rooted in a desire to push creative boundaries and connect with new audiences. “The script of ROOT gripped me from the first page. It’s rare to come across a story so universal yet so deeply rooted in local flavour. I’m thrilled to be making my Tamil debut with a character that truly tests me,” he said.
The film will also be released in Hindi, Telugu, and Malayalam, positioning it as a true pan-India release. Backed by I B Karthikeyan’s Big Print Pictures and co-produced by V Jayaprakash of Ajumari Cine Entertainment, ‘ROOT’ is currently in its final stages of production. The makers plan to unveil the first look and teaser in the coming weeks, with a theatrical release expected later this year.
Aparshakti’s leap into Tamil cinema adds to a growing trend of North Indian actors making inroads into South Indian film industries, reflecting the increasingly seamless integration of regional and national entertainment markets in India.
