In a significant boost for the growing popularity of rugby in India, JioStar has been announced as the Official Broadcast Partner for the inaugural season of the Rugby Premier League (RPL). The much-anticipated season is set to kick off in June 2025 and promises to bring high-octane rugby action to audiences across the country.
The Rugby Premier League, launching its first-ever edition this year, aims to put the spotlight on the dynamic sport by featuring a mix of domestic and international players. With rugby steadily gaining ground among Indian sports enthusiasts, the partnership with JioStar is expected to significantly expand the league’s reach and fan engagement, ANI reported from Mumbai.
Under this partnership, JioStar will provide comprehensive coverage of the entire season, including live broadcasts of matches, pre- and post-game analysis, exclusive interviews, and behind-the-scenes content. All matches will be streamed live on JioStar’s TV channels and digital platforms, ensuring accessibility to fans nationwide.
Announcing the partnership, a senior executive from JioStar said, “We are thrilled to be the Official Broadcast Partner for the Rugby Premier League. Rugby is a thrilling sport, and with its growing fan base in India, we see tremendous potential. Through our platforms, we aim to bring the excitement of RPL into every home and help foster a deeper connection with the sport.”
The Rugby India Federation, organizers of the RPL, welcomed the move, stating that JioStar’s vast network and cutting-edge technology would be instrumental in giving the league the visibility it deserves. “This partnership marks a new era for rugby in India. With JioStar’s support, we hope to inspire a new generation of players and fans,” said a Rugby India spokesperson.
The inaugural season will feature six franchise teams competing across multiple cities, with the grand finale scheduled for late August. The league is expected to follow a high-energy format to attract younger audiences, featuring themed fan zones, halftime shows, and interactive fan contests.
As anticipation builds, the collaboration between RPL and JioStar is poised to redefine the rugby experience for Indian viewers and open new avenues for the sport’s growth in the region.
