Strengthening its commitment to independent and professional journalism, NDTV has announced the appointment of U.K. Sinha and Dipali Goenka as Independent Directors for a two-year term. U.K. Sinha, the former Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), has also been named the Non-Executive Chairperson of NDTV.
The appointments were made following the recommendations of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and are subject to shareholder approval and clearance from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. This move is in line with the Adani Group’s vision to uphold NDTV’s editorial independence and strengthen its corporate governance framework, the news network said in a statement.
U.K. Sinha, a highly respected financial regulator, brings with him decades of experience in governance, policymaking, and corporate leadership. His tenure at SEBI from 2011 to 2017 was marked by sweeping regulatory reforms, increased investor protection, and major market developments. As the Non-Executive Chairperson of NDTV, his leadership is expected to reinforce the organization’s transparency and professional ethics.
Joining him on the board is Dipali Goenka, a prominent business leader and CEO of Welspun India, one of the world’s leading textile manufacturers. Known for her strategic vision and leadership in the global business space, she is expected to bring valuable industry insights and governance expertise to NDTV’s board.
Since acquiring a majority stake in NDTV in 2022, the Adani Group has emphasized its goal of ensuring the news organization maintains its independent voice and journalistic credibility. The latest board appointments are seen as a step towards reinforcing NDTV’s governance structure while ensuring professional oversight.
With these high-profile additions, NDTV is set to navigate its next phase of growth, balancing journalistic integrity with strong corporate leadership. The appointments of U.K. Sinha and Dipali Goenka signal a strategic move towards a more robust and accountable media organization.
