Actress Rashmika Mandanna has been appointed as the National Ambassador for Cyber Safety Promotion by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
Following her own experience with the deep fake AI trend, Rashmika has taken on this role to spread awareness about the growing risks of cybercrime and promote digital safety across the country, PTI reported from New Delhi yesterday.
In her new position, Rashmika will lead national initiatives aimed at educating people about digital threats, including cyber harassment, financial scams, and deepfake technology.
The actress, who is currently starring in the movie ‘Animal’, emphasized the importance of combating these threats, stating, “Cybercrime is a dangerous and pervasive threat that affects individuals, businesses, and communities worldwide. As someone who has experienced this, I am dedicated to raising awareness about these issues and promoting the message of cyber safety to drive positive change.”
Rashmika’s appointment comes after a deep fake video of her went viral in November 2023, showing a manipulated version of the actress in a compromising situation. The video, which had placed Rashmika’s face onto British influencer Zara Patel’s body, quickly garnered attention online. Following the incident, the Delhi Police arrested the individual responsible for creating and sharing the doctored footage.
With this new responsibility, Rashmika aims to educate the public on how to safeguard their digital presence and protect themselves from online crimes, including deepfakes, cyberbullying, and harmful AI-generated content. Her advocacy will focus on empowering people with knowledge and tools to navigate the online world safely.
