Tata Play Classic Cinema will celebrate the iconic Kishore Kumar on August 4 with an exclusive all-day marathon dedicated to his illustrious career.
The channel will showcase a selection of his classic films, highlighting his remarkable contributions as both an actor and playback singer. Tune in to service number 318 to enjoy the grandeur of Kishore Kumar’s legacy.
The day’s programming will feature four of Kishore Kumar’s most celebrated films:
‘Half Ticket’ – Starting at 11:00 am, Tata Play Classic Cinema will air the 1962 classic ‘Half Ticket’. Directed by Kalidas and produced by Bombay Talkies, the film stars Kishore Kumar alongside Madhubala, Pran, Manorama, and Pradeep Kumar. Kumar plays Vijay, a young man who, facing an arranged marriage, poses as a child to travel cheaply to Bombay.
The film combines comedy, romance, and melodious tracks, including ‘Chand Raat Tum Ho Saath’ sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. ‘Half Ticket ’ was a commercial success, grossing ₹1 crore and netting ₹0.5 crore at the Indian box office.
‘Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi’ – At 2:00 pm, ‘Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi’ will air. This 1958 cult classic, featuring Kishore Kumar with his brothers Ashok Kumar and Anoop Kumar, along with Madhubala, Veena, and KN Singh, explores the comedic and musical adventures of three brothers running a garage. With memorable tracks such as ‘Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si’ and ‘Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka’, the film was the second highest-grossing Indian film of its year, earning ₹2.5 crores gross and ₹1.25 crore net.
Jhumroo – The marathon continues with ‘Jhumroo’ at 5:00 pm. This romantic comedy stars Kishore Kumar and Nargis, supported by Chanchal, Anoop Kumar, Lalita Pawar, and Jayant. The film follows the romance between a tribal man, Jhumroo, and a young woman, Anjana, despite her father’s objections. Known for its enchanting soundtrack, including tracks like ‘Main Hoon Jhumroo’ and ‘Jhoome Re Jhoome’, the film features lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri and Kishore Kumar.
Naughty Boy – Concluding the day’s celebrations, ‘Naughty Boy’ will air at 8:00 pm. Starring Kishore Kumar and Kalpana Mohan, with supporting roles by Bhattacharya, Laxmi Chhaya, and Om Prakash, this comedy follows the humorous twists and turns of Pritam, a bookkeeper who finds love and faces a series of comedic mishaps. The soundtrack, composed by SD Burman and RD Burman, includes iconic tracks like ‘Ho Gayi Shyam Dil Badnam’ and ‘Nazren Milake Jo Duniya Ki’, sung by Kumar and Manna Dey.
