Spotify is gearing up to introduce a new ‘Music Pro’ add-on that will include long-awaited lossless audio (which has already been available on Apple Music) and DJ remix features, according to recent code snippets discovered in the Spotify for Android app, as reported by The Economic Times.
The lossless audio feature, initially announced as ‘Spotify HiFi’ three years ago and later rumoured to be part of a more expensive ‘Supremium’ subscription tier, will finally be available to users through the Music Pro add-on.
The code samples indicate that Spotify will support “up to 24-bit/44.1kHz” FLAC files, with one snippet stating, “lossless has arrived.”
In addition to lossless audio, Music Pro will include DJ remix features, allowing subscribers to experiment with tracks in new ways.
According to Reddit user Hypixely, who has been analysing the code, Spotify is also planning to introduce a headphone optimization feature that utilises “patented technology” to enhance sound for specific models, with Apple’s AirPods being mentioned in the code. This feature aims to deliver a tailored audio experience based on the user’s headphones.
Furthermore, Music Pro is expected to offer advanced library filtering options, allowing users to sort their music by mood, genre, and other criteria. While Spotify is investing heavily in AI-generated playlists, it remains unclear whether these will be included in the Music Pro add-on.
The Music Pro add-on will not be a separate subscription plan but rather an optional feature that users can add to their existing Spotify Premium subscription. The pricing details for the add-on have not yet been disclosed.
The wait for lossless audio on Spotify has been long, with many twists and turns along the way. However, recent code discoveries suggest that the feature is closer to launch than ever before.
