Prime Video has secured a prestigious nomination at the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards for its unscripted Original series, ‘Rainbow Rishta’.
The nomination marks the first time an Indian unscripted series on queer love is being acknowledged at the renowned LGBTQ awards.
According to a company press release, ‘Rainbow Rishta‘, which premiered on Prime Video in November 2023, delves into the real-life love stories of members of the LGBTQIA+ community in India. The series, a VICE Studios Production, is celebrated for its diverse narratives, showcasing love in various forms and highlighting the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA+ community.
Commenting on the nomination, Aparna Purohit, Head of Originals, India and Southeast Asia, Prime Video, expressed pride in the nomination, stating, “Rainbow Rishta is a celebration of love in its myriad forms, presenting a compelling and diverse exploration of human connections and resilience.”
Purohit emphasized Prime Video’s commitment to inclusive storytelling that transcends borders and challenges societal biases.
Director Jaydeep Sarkar shared his appreciation for the recognition, stating, “Being nominated at the GLAAD Media Awards is a matter of great pride for me and the entire team that worked tirelessly to bring Rainbow Rishta to life.”
The series aims to promote self-acceptance and challenge societal norms through authentic queer stories.
Samira Kanwar of VICE Studios expressed gratitude for the nomination, describing “Rainbow Rishta” as a show made with love and emphasizing its impact in sparking conversations and breaking preconceived notions.
Founded in 1985, GLAAD is a non-profit organization dedicated to LGBTQ advocacy and cultural change. The GLAAD Media Awards, since 1990, have become a global celebration of fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of the LGBTQ community in the media.
