Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecommunications company, has achieved its 5G rollout obligations in all circles after months of network deployment across the country.
In a communication to the Telecom Department (DoT), the company reported meeting the stipulated parameters and expressed its readiness to undergo testing.
The next step involves the term cells selecting 10 percent of the sites for testing. Once the tests meet the required criteria, the company will be issued a certificate acknowledging the completion of the rollout obligation, PTI reported.
Notably, Reliance Jio has already conducted successful 5G service tests on bands of 26 GHz and 3300 MHz spectrum in the Gujarat circle. The Department of Telecommunications’ Gujarat wing confirmed this through a post on Twitter, now rebranded as X.
The Minister of State for Communications, Devusinh Chauhan, had revealed in a written reply in Lok Sabha on July 26 that the total number of 5G Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs or towers) provided by various telecom service providers was 2.81 lakhs as of July 7, 2023. Reliance Jio led the pack with 2,28,689 5G BTSs, followed by Airtel with 53,223 BTSs, and Vodafone Idea with 36.
The advantages of 5G technology are vast, promising dramatically improved speeds and lag-free videos. Its applications range from connected ambulances to cloud gaming and even augmented reality-driven experiences for shoppers.
Experts predict that India will have approximately 10 million 5G subscriptions by the end of 2022, accounting for around 57 percent of mobile subscriptions in the country by the end of 2028. This makes India the fastest-growing 5G region globally, as stated in the Ericsson Mobility Report released in June.
