American chipmaker AMD has unveiled ambitious plans to invest a substantial sum of $400 million in India, aimed at expanding its research, development, and engineering operations.
The investment is set to be spread out over the next five years, and it will play a crucial role in bolstering India’s technology sector.
A significant portion of this investment will go towards establishing a cutting-edge AMD campus in Bangalore, slated to become the company’s largest design center, a IANS report stated.
The campus is expected to be operational before the close of 2023 and will boast state-of-the-art facilities, including extensive laboratory space and advanced collaboration tools.
As part of this expansion drive, AMD is also committed to creating around 3,000 new engineering roles by the end of 2028. This move will not only boost the company’s operations but also offer substantial employment opportunities for India’s skilled semiconductor engineers and researchers, the IANS report added.
In response to AMD’s strategic investment, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, expressed his support and excitement. He praised the decision to establish the company’s largest R&D design center in India and emphasized the positive impact it would have on the country’s talent pool.
