R Balki’s latest film, “Ghoomer,” featuring Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher, has been chosen to open the 2023 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) on August 12.
The movie tells the inspiring story of a paraplegic sportsperson (played by Kher) who excels in cricket with the guidance of her coach (Bachchan). The film, co-written by Balki, Rahul Sengupta, and Rishi Virmani, focuses on turning adversity into advantage and showcases the resilience of the human spirit. The IFFM, now in its 14th edition, will be held from August 11 to August 20 in Melbourne, PTI reported.
Kher expressed her excitement, as the film fulfills her long-cherished dream of portraying a sportswoman on screen. “Ghoomer” also features Shabana Azmi, Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, and Ivanka Das.
