‘August 16 1947’ is a captivating story of resilience and freedom set in the secluded village of Sengadu, located in pre-independence Madras, where an atrocious British general, Robert Clive, and his son Justin, are in charge.
The story spans three days, beginning on August 14, and follows the lives of illiterate and oppressed villagers who, due to isolation, fail to receive timely news of India’s independence.
Things start to change when a local thug, Param (Gautham Karthik), leads a revolt to free them all and save Deepali (Revathy Sharma) from Justin’s advances.
