Yann Demange has signed on to direct Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated Blade film.
According to PTI, Demange, known for critically acclaimed films ’71 (2014) and White Boy Rick (2018), will direct the project from a script by Michael Starrbury.
He joins the project months after director Bassam Tariq’s departure.
The filmmaker will continue to serve as an executive producer on the film.
The plot revolves around the iconic comic book vampire slayer Blade. He is half-mortal, half-immortal, and is attempting to rid the world of vampires to avenge his mother, who was killed by a vampire while giving birth to him.
The film will star Oscar winner Mahershala Ali in the title role, as well as Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre. Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, will produce the film, which is set to begin production in Atlanta in 2023.
