‘Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20’ has crossed 100 crore watch-time hours on JioHotstar in under 60 days, becoming the fastest season in the franchise’s history to achieve the milestone. Twenty years after the reality show first launched in India, the latest season continues to strengthen its position as one of the country’s biggest entertainment franchises, with record-breaking viewership and growing audience participation.
According to a press release issued by JioStar yesterday, the season recorded the biggest opening day ever for a reality show on JioHotstar when it premiered in September. The latest milestone comes with nearly half the season still to go, further highlighting the continued popularity of the franchise among audiences across the country.
Beyond viewership, ‘Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20’ has also witnessed a significant rise in audience engagement. More than 350 crore votes have been cast this season, marking a 71% increase over the previous season, while the number of fans participating in voting has grown by 48%. Audience participation has also extended to digital activities, with fans creating more than three times as many memes as last season and over twice as many viewers participating in Jeeto, the show’s play-along game.
The season is also finding audiences beyond India. Since its launch, ‘Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20’ has consistently ranked among JioHotstar’s top five titles in the UK, Canada and Singapore. In the UAE, the show is currently the No. 1 title on STARZPLAY and has remained in the platform’s top 10 since it began streaming there.
Speaking about the milestone, host Salman Khan said, “Bigg Boss ka asli game sirf ghar ke andar nahi, ghar ke bahar bhi chalta hai, jahaan audience har moment se judi rehti hai. Reaching 100 crore watch-time hours on JioHotstar is a testament to the incredible love and connection our viewers share with the show. Every season brings something new, but what remains constant is the excitement and enthusiasm of our audience. This milestone belongs to each one of you. Thank you for being such an important part of the Bigg Boss journey!”
Alok Jain, Head – Hindi & English Entertainment Business (Streaming, TV & Studios), JioStar, said the achievement was a moment of pride for the team, noting that the watch time represents more than an hour of ‘Bigg Boss’ for every person in the Hindi-speaking market on digital alone, even before television viewership is taken into account.
He added, “We are excited to have crossed 100 crore hours on JioHotstar with nearly half the season still to go. It’s heartening to see viewers embrace a season we have shaped around what they love most about the show. ‘Bigg Boss’ has always been made for every Indian, and today it is watched from the biggest metros to the smallest villages.”
Jain further highlighted how the latest season has introduced more ways for audiences to participate in the show, allowing viewers to vote, take part in polls and debate developments as the drama unfolds. He also thanked viewers for making the show their own.
Deepak Dhar, Founder and Group CEO, Banijay Asia and Endemol Shine India, said the milestone reflected the audience’s continued appreciation for the franchise over more than two decades.
“Reaching 100 crore watch-time hours is a moment we’re deeply grateful for. Every one of those hours is a testament to the love and appreciation of a viewer who chose to spend their time inside the Bigg Boss house, and we don’t take that for granted. For over two decades, this show has grown because the audience has made it their own,” Dhar said.
He added that the audience’s engagement continues to demonstrate how ‘Bigg Boss’ has shaped unscripted entertainment in India, while thanking Salman Khan, JioStar and the Endemol Shine India team for their contribution to the show.
The franchise continues to draw viewers from across India, with its most-watched markets spanning major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad, along with Lucknow, Surat, Jaipur and Nagpur. The season is also attracting a younger audience, with Gen Z accounting for 45 percent of the total watch time. Connected TV viewership has continued to grow as families come together to watch the show on larger screens.
The growing popularity of the season has also translated into strong advertiser confidence, with 24 sponsors partnering with ‘Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20’ across categories including FMCG, e-commerce, beauty and cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, real estate, consumer electronics, kitchen and home appliances, and on-demand home services.
‘Bigg Boss’ remains JioHotstar’s biggest entertainment franchise and is currently available in six languages. The show is also a key part of JioStar’s ‘Always On Unscripted’ strategy, which aims to deliver reality entertainment throughout the year.
‘Bigg Boss Hindi Season 20’ streams 24×7 on JioHotstar. The format is owned by Banijay Entertainment and produced by Endemol Shine India.
